Driving to Higher Melcombe Manor
Nestling in a horseshoe valley just to the east of the Dorset Gap, Higher Melcombe is easier to reach than its peaceful location might suggest.
For SatNav users the postcode is DT2 7PB - This takes drivers to the centre of Higher Melcombe Farm. The Manor itself is over a cattle grid approximately 400m before this point, on the left. Otherwise the easiest way to find us is from the A35 between Dorchester and Bere Regis:
- Take the Piddlehinton exit (B3142)
- first left to Cheselbourne, then
- first right into Long Lane.
- Continue along this quiet country road for 5 miles until you reach the crossroads at Melcombe Bingham.
- Turn left, signed ‘Private Road to Higher Melcombe’ and follow the lane until the end of the avenue of limes, planted in 1940-41 to commemorate the Battle of Britain.
- The entrance to Higher Melcombe Manor is left over a cattle grid - just before the bend in the road, and opposite the back of the farm buildings.
